This the is reintroduction day I was most nervous for. I even put it off an extra two days because I didn’t want to do it.
Why so against grains? Well, after my last Whole30, I reintroduced quinoa and corn tortillas – two foods that were fairly common in my diet until that point. Especially the corn tortillas. Hello, chips and salsa. But after this reintroduction, I didn’t poo for a week. I was miserable and bloated. And after I’d had enough constipation (for life, probably), I decided to do everything I possibly could to unplug the plug. In one day, I had beets, drank smooth move tea, took a dulcolax, and ate sauerkraut. Then I spent two days on the toilet. Eight days of torture, all thanks to some freakin quinoa.
Given my history with grains, I was nervous going into this round’s grain reintroduction. But I knew I had to do it. I had to try some other types of non-gluten grains to see how they’d affect me. Walking around the store, it was really hard to pick out something besides rice. I just don’t want to eat any of this crap anymore. Quinoa is an absolute no for me and brown rice pasta just isn’t all that appealing. Plus, most of the pre-made gluten free stuff is full of either sugar or canola oil. Two things I do NOT mess with. I managed to find some gluten free english muffins made from brown rice and got the hell out of Ralph’s.
So how am I feeling? Well, I don’t feel bad. I don’t feel like I have a rock in my stomach, like I did last time (almost immediately too). But since eating the grains yesterday, I haven’t been as…regular. Maybe this is too much information, but I pride myself on my regularity. It gives me great joy to have a great crap each and every morning. And sure as shit (pun intended), I didn’t poo this morning. It basically ruined my day.
For me, eating grains is definitely not worth it. Unless it’s in the form of a gluten free german chocolate cake. THAT would be worth it. But a dry english muffin? Pass.
I’m back to Whole30 for a few more days until I can get my digestion back on track. Then I’ll introduce dairy. Anyone else have issues when they reintroduced gluten-free grains?
