Have you ever had those days where literally nothing goes your way? Everything from the moment I woke up yesterday to the moment I went to bed was a complete mess. That’s why I didn’t post.
It all started when I woke up late and had to rush to my morning workshop. I actually arrived on time, but that accomplishment was cut short when I found myself in the wrong parking lot and had to move to my car. Thus making me late. I could go on and on about everything else that happened, but let me just say, the day ended with me getting on the 405 going the wrong direction. That was my day.
Because it was such a weird day, I ate really sporadically all day long. I did not at all follow the recommended 3 meals per day. I probably had 5 or 6 smaller “meals”, most of which were just carrot sticks. When I finally got home and realized I was starving, I dove spoon first into some almond butter. Bad choice, I know. Nut butters and raw nuts are my “food with no brakes”. Anyone else have a food like this? I try to avoid nuts altogether because I’m fully aware of my tendencies, but I keep almond butter in the house just for apple dipping. And apparently spoon dipping. Those types of behaviors always arise when I don’t eat enough during the day. So even though I ate 14,000 carrots yesterday, my tummy was rumbling when I got home.
Eating enough early in the day is a lesson from Whole30 that I carry throughout the rest of the year. I used to be the 6 small meals a day person, but I hated it. I was always thinking about food. Always counting down the hours until I could next eat again. It worked for me at the time for two reasons: I was too busy to cook 3 big meals a day (snacking was actually easier) and I was drinking downing coffee between meals (which is an appetite suppressant). But now that I have more time and I don’t have coffee flowing through my veins, I actually enjoy eating 3 big meals. Having to think about eating 3 meals a day is enough stress. 6 times a day gives me straight up anxiety.
Anyways, I’ve started making lots of warm and delicious food. Perfect timing – the day after the rain stopped. Whatever, chili should be eaten year round. It’s THAT good. And I know I haven’t posted a recipe in a while, but I have a good one coming your way tomorrow! It’s a staple in my household. ‘Til then.
